My first dart frog eggs

Post  Jumper on Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:52 am

I had 2 males for 2 years. I finally got a female about a month ago. Things went really fast and I am getting eggs. The first clutch had 3 eggs with 1 good egg. The other clutches...... so far, seem to be all good.

My 2 males

All 3....

I look at them a lot. While I was watching it came out of the jell. It was quick.

Now, I just wait for the next stage.

This morning I found him floating on his back....aaahhhh! While I was nudging on him he would try to go down, but floated back up. When I put on my glasses I saw an air bubble in his belly. During one of my nudges down he got vertical with the tail down, and I guess he 'burped', because the air bubble came out of his mouth and he went straight for food, and seems fine now.

I just hope it somehow swallowed an air bubble, and that it was not generated in the body in some way. The NARBC ? no, I won't be going.

Just came across this and thought i'd ad my two cents. It was most likely an air bubble.
This happens when tads feed at the surface of the water and they ingest air. You should try feeding foods that are pre-soaked or pellets of food that sink to the bottom of the containers, if too much air is ingested it can be harmful to the tad.
I've raised hundreds upon hundreds of dart tads and I have dealt with this on occasion.
What would most likely happen if the tad continued to ingest too much air would be improper development of the front legs (which would then cause the tad to die not long after morphing out into a froglet.)

Hope all goes well with your tads! Feel free to email or PM me any time with questions!
