Scolopendra heros in the field

Post  gatsu7 on Wed May 26, 2010 12:59 pm

This was the first one that I have ever seen outside of a deli cup. We found it at Pontotoc Ridge Nature Preserve on 5/22/2010.

I caught a juvenile (~3") a few days ago. Still have it and plan on keeping it. It's a really dark blue body and bright yellow legs. I'll try to get a pic of it.

Cool! I just picked up another one yesterday for programs too. I caught the 4" one but couldn't catch the large ~8" I saw a few days ago. It was one of the largest ones I've seen. They are one of my favorirte native inverts.
