Fascinating . . . and frightening. I'm wondering if the fungus isn't new but has been around for awhile and that frogs in good health were resistant to it, which makes me wonder what environmental factors might be stimulating the spread of the fungus? I.e., what has changed that might be making the frogs susceptible to the fungus when they weren't before? Of course, it could be entirely new . . .

I have heard of wild and captive Hellbenders suffering from this as well. It apparently has been around for a few years and can affect a variety of amphibians

I seen a article a few weeks ago where the Japanese Giant Salamander is immune to the fungus...They are doing genetic research on the west coast some were trying to isolate what makes them immune to this fungus. Hopefully they can find a cure for it before all of our frogs are gone Sad
